Bachi, a quick query - and I might be totally alone in this - we only have classicNav (i.e. a road atlas) normally we are given Tulip routes, do you offer typed, paper instructions of the routes as an alternative?

Getting a bit lost, or divirting to a pub, is all part of the tour to us but we still have good sessions with the pack, or catch it up, or get in front of it

My wife likes to navigate that way she's concertrating just a little less on my driving and a liitle more on the surroundings

Hi Nigel - yes, we provide a map and route notes for everyone (as a memento as much as anything else) including tour managers details and the destination address and number. There is one map sheet per day.

How do they know which specially selected real ale pub we're going to - not without good reason is my wife known as Mrs. Beer

We have to park out of the sun too as I've a perscription windscreen fitted otherwise the upholstery catches fire

That reminds me of the time I took my brother along as navigator on a car run, he and another navigator were heard discussing the route notes.....

Nav 1(reading notes) - "turn right out of the pub and follow the tulips"

brother - "I didn't see any tulips out the front. did you?"

Nav 1 - "No, it's the wrong time of year for tulips"

We did explain what the little diagrams were called (when we finished laughing) but it didn't stop them getting us utterley lost to the point where a farmer chased us off his land with a shotgun!

We went on a very early Donor GT Rally which had fours routes that started and finished at Gaydon motor museum

Each route had been devised and put into Tulip form by four veteran rally navigators including Paddy Hopkirk (a really nice bloke)

I was suprised at the difference in presentation, one was handwritten and drawn in the looping old fashion style of writing on lined paper and photocopied, the others were typed or printed in different ways and IIIRC the symbols varied

I was expecting some computer program print off but of course that was not the way it was done in the 50s and 60s

whoops just realised we're off topic - but if nothing esle it was good to say what a nice bloke Paddy Hopkirk was
