I just posted an "intruducing Petrolhead Nirvana" thread over on the Baja Club website soooo; in the interests of equality:

www.bajaclub.co.uk

I wouldn't have got even half way on the Oz Rally without the help of petrolhead Nirvana and the Baja club, in particular Paul, who runs the club and Mark at Dreamshack (www.marksdreamshack.com).

I've given petrolhead Nirvana a big plug over on the Baja club website so if any Veedubs rock up on Ace night or anywhere else, please give them a warm welcome xx

remember Petrolhead Nirvana is about driving pleasure which can come in all forms. I'm a prime example of this; cars I own or have owned;

1965 Austin Healey sprite
1971 Austin Mini
1993 Sebring SX
1990 Sheldonhurst (Ferrari dino kit)
1972 VW LHD Beetle
1991 Toyota Sera
1972 Mini convertible
1969 VW baja Beetle

The Sebring is the one I bring to PN meets most often as it's more able to keep up :-) but all the cars are gorgeous in their own way. I also still own the baja, great for off-road fun and just returned from the Oz Rally and the gull wing doored Sera which I use as my everyday car.

what did you think of the Dino kit, what sort of response did you get to it?

Not bad, mid-engined alfa Romeo 1.5 so not that quick but handled quite well. It was a little rough round the edges, you could see the fibreglass strands on the underside of the bonnet, so not high standard of finish! removable centre roof panel was great.

Interestingly one of my mates owned an original and he said it compared very well. He said the original was not well finished either!

It used to get mistaken for a real one a lot, despite having a Q plate! I got called "rich bitch" a couple of times and one guy delibrately slammed his door open into the side of it at the traffic lights before getting out and yelling abuse at me while trying to pull the door open! I got his number and reported him to the police but the whole experience has put me off of ever owning a red Ferrari. You ever have to deal with crap like that driving the 360?

It was good for picking up men though. This whole thing about some cars being "chick magnets" is rubbish, they attract far more men then women :-) One guy spotted it as a kit, he came wandering over
him: "nice car, it's a good copy"
me: "you spotted it as a copy then"
him: "yeah, well i raced one of the originals in the Mille Miglia"

Spot the bullshit? The Mille Miglia is only open to pre '57 cars with a racing pedigree. The Dino's not old enough to qualify. He was so full of it but I figured; hey, if he's that desperate to impress me......so I never pointed out his mistake and went out with him anyway ;-)
