View Full Version : Bonnie..........
hopefully not Langford......actually that's an image i could have done without sorry.
Scottish highland roads, twisty, empty and scenic.......
there are enough roads to do 3 months there, but we're going to pick some of the best and do it over a long weekend.
actually several long weeknds as we plan to go back time and time again.
who wants to go to Scotland, and when would you like to go?

Count me in.
We can always have a lunch stop at my Father's house (South Lake District) on the way there or back. I can also recommend a few good driving roads in that area. :D
Ah good effort, have always wanted to have a blat around there ! WilloM900 tells me that the roads up there are fantastic !

If you use the M6 on the way to or from Scotland, then we can always take a bit of a detour to break up the motorway miles and take the A6 over Shap. A great road, never busy and very popular with bikers. I think that says it all!!

3 years back in September I drove from Inverness to Fort William along the Great Glen (past Loch Ness) in a day. The weather was gorgeous and the road virtually empty. It just gets a little narrow in places but otherwise very scenic and interesting.

I am still yet to visit Scotland and I don't mind a drive so this seems as good an opportunity as any.
Keep us posted...
James. :)
Hell yeah. And if we should pass a distillery at some point as a stop-off... :)

Ooooh our roads are brilliant, i have mentioned some within the new members post,
if you want, i'll go look for some new roads come spring and that means i can go play, plus be doing "research"
yet one brilliant road, A82,
another, Glen Fruin road (takes you past where we keep our nukes but shhhh thats a secret)
Then a brilliant twisty (enough to make a passenger sick) is "dukes pass"
oooh i wanna go out now!!
I'll either come along for the whole time or meet up for a bit of it.

I've always fancied a jaunt north of the border. I once went to John O Groats on a random trip one Wednesday, but it was pretty badly organised and we only really got to see major roads. Even these were spectacular however, especially crossing the Highlands.
I spend my life at the moment couriering across North Yorkshire, so I have quite a bit of local knowledge with regard to good roads to drive on.
i'm looking forward to going again.
just a case of sorting out the final routes and the dates.
oh, and organising the weather too!

A Wednesday? Are you sure? I guess because there wasn't grass in the middle of the roads we drove down they were classed as major roads? :P
I'd love to do another trip up to the highlands in something other than my battered out old corsa this time.

All of Speyside, particularly:
A93, A939, B9136 (stop off at Glenlivet).
A831 and A833 loop from Milton just west of Loch Ness.
A832 is very pretty, some good driving too, but single-tracked in places. Apparently the A835 north out of Ullapool is good, but I didn't have the time to try it and the A894 just has to be wonderful looking at the maps. I'd love to go up north up there. ;-)
