Ok, so this is the fun bit.....

there are more car makers in the Uk than you think.

we've already got some in mind, we're planning a fun drive, a hotel then a vist to the factory.

We wont just be doing this in the UK, we're planning to strom europe and see what they have to offer!

so, which car manufacturer would you like to go and see?

I'd be interested in a nose around the Caterham place.

Lotus & Atom too. . . .

What about some of the Formula 1 teams?

The Morgan factory is always a good day out.

Also, you may be able to get inside of the Aston Martin Works and Service area in Newport Pagnell to see them panel beating the older Astons.

Personally i'd love a trip round the McLaren HQ

how about a "mark all as read"....so that when members visit they can use the "new posts" button a quick scan of topics that have been added to but if they don't wish to read them they can bulk mark as read so that they can use "new Posts" later in the day!!

I'd also be up for an F1 or GT team visit.

Manganese Bronze Holdings are I believe the largest British car manufacturers - Coventry... Not really sure I fancy a factory visit there, though - saying that... I do use their vehicles quite a lot

excellent suggestions so far.

i've been in touch with a couple of car makers so far, both of whom have been positive about the idea.

i'm sure you can guess one of them!

Prodrive would be good, Le Mans Aston Martins, Rally Subaru, etc all made there.

Several years ago I visited the Williams factory in Didcot and it was very interesting. Not only do you get to see the R&D facilities, fabrication and build areas, but they also had a very interesting "museum" of previous cars including the never raced 6 wheel (4 at the rear) 4 wheel drive car.

A friend of mine worked with the Toyota rally team and with the the Toyota and Arrows F1 teams in the past.

He also was involved in the JCB Dieselmax project land-speed record.

If any info is needed about potentially getting access to somewhere I can ask him for advice and hopefully he may be able to help.

I'd definitely be up for any F1 team visits especially Williams , McLaren etc , also a friend of mine had an interesting factory visit at the Penske factory down in Poole , we all forget about the American exports don't we ?
Ireland , I used to work for a JCB dealer and they occasionally do machinery exhibitions/demonstrations at their HQ nr Alton Towers , we got to see the real Dieselmax up close still had the air freight tags on , anyway I know its not cars but the factory tour IS amazing , a whole self sustaining facility with a vast office with an in house travel office and also an in house dentist , no getting away sciving there ! I don't know what there current situation is with diminishing market and all that but its definitely one to do if your'e into heavy metal as well.

Another vote for Morgan. Went there earlier this year and had a great day out. Lovely driving roads in the area and the people at Morgan are very friendly. A chance to see how cars were built in the old days. No push button machinery in sight.

Only downside with Morgan is that they won't do a weekend tour :(
