View Full Version : The 2009 tour to the home of the Trolls
No, not that kind of Troll!
although actually thinking about it.......hmmm
we're going to Norway to find waterfalls, scenery, fjords and most important of all, the twisty empty roads.
the experience gained from the tour i went on in 2007 has allowed us to refine and enhance (big words eh? :) ) the 2009 tour into something very special.
more details as they arrive.........well you wouldnt want me to give everything away would you?
if you're interested or want to make some suggestions let us know!
Definitely interested, any ideas of dates?

sounds great but cost is a major factor for me, being poor and whatnot :D
i'd suggest using cheap accomodation but depends how everyone else feels!!

I'm interested. We were talking about sorting a trip heading North on a recent Eurohoon.
we're working on the details at the moment...so stay tuned!

An amazing part of the world.
Sadly my driving experience in Norway is limited to a rented Toyota Corolla many years ago - wind up windows, but heated seats!
Definitely interested in going along.

'09 should see me back hooning around Europe again.
I should be up for it as well.
Keep me posted.
Will definately be interested. I'm assuming it will be late spring at the earliest? I'm already committed to South Africa/Botswana early January and the USA in Febuary so I need to fit a bit of work in first. :)
yes it's not worth going any earlier than spring.....the snow road is worth seeing in the Summertime

I think accomodation should live up to at least the millau trip i went on last year

Do you have any idea of a ball park cost for this?
Ollie, we have some ball park figures, but it rather depends on the cost of travel to Scandinavia (which can be expensive) as well as the hotels.
we're still negotiating to get a decent value for money compromise
we're going to try to keep it below £1,300 per person but believe me, it will be worth it!

Thanks for the quick response Harsh,
Having done tours around europe before i understand the cost of travel isn't included, was more interested in the base price for accomodation and organisation. I was expecting more than that to be fair. :D
Now to find someone to bring and hope there is a free slot in my calendar between all of my jetsetting.

I'm still watching this thread with interest .....
:D
We've been talking to the ferry company that used to operate the Newcastle Stavanger link up until the end of last year.
we've also spoken to a few other companies to see if they are likely to provide a service in 2009.
at the moment we have come up empty.
there is an alternative route via Denmark which we are looking into, but until we can be sure that it is worthwhile from a cost perspective and of course that it doesnt spoil the overall driving experience we're not going to commit to it.
the last thing we want to do is spend half the time on a ferry when we'd rather be driving.
so leave it with us, the larger tours will be launched soon and it may be that the Troll tour waits until the ferry companies see sense!
I'm keeping my eye on this one and really hope it goes ahead :)

I would absolutely love the opportunity to take part on this tour. Having seen the footage from 2007 the views and landscapes just look amazing. :coolgleamA:
I definitely won't have the time or money for it this year but think that it would be something fantastic to plan/aim for in 2010 so will pencil it in...
Really looking forward to hearing and seeing what a fantastic time you all have this time round. :)

I will definately do this providing i can get the time off work.
I will need a passenger to split the fuel costs with i guess
OR
If you would like me to be your passenger then i'll pay half towards your fuel costs so it works out cheaoer for you
Sounds like a trip of a lifetime to me, can't wait

So ..... ?????
So........
we've been talking to the Ferry co's to see how we can get around the fact that the direct service from Newcastle ceased last year.
there are a couple of options available but in our opinion they are either too expensive or take too long to make the trip worthwhile this year.
if anything changes you'll be the first to know but unless they restart the service we may not make it to Norway this year :(
