Ok, it's over 2 months away but I've been back from Millau all of 3 weeks and I want to go back on tour again!

I'll leave Ben to do the technical stuff like putting up countdown thingies as I'm rubbish at stuff like that.

But... I can wait to go to the Alps!

Anyone else excited?

but just one question,

what is the 'walk' of which you speak?

Now that's a tough call - although its not like there are any wrong answers!

Two Atoms would be great, but I'm also a big 360 fan. So that's me well and truly on the fence then.

Anyone stopping over near Folkestone?

Might be an idea to stay at the same place. Any recommendations from those who've done it before?

we stayed at the Premier Inn right by the enterance to the Tunnel for the Millau tour we've just done

Not sure exactly which hotel is nearest the tunnel according to the map but the Premier Inns seem to be £62/£63 per night... Anyone know exactly which hotel to book for the eurotunnel?

P.S. I'm very excited, only a month and a few days to go :)

You want the Folkestone (Channel Tunnel) hotel, it is literally 5 minutes away from the place.

I believe that's the Premier Inn (http://www.premierinn.com/pti/hotelInformation.do?hotelId=23947).

Yes it does.

No it isn't.

The Premier Inn is about a fiver more than the HIE, but it's a lot more than a fiver nicer

Steve, you'll be fine mate
seriously it's not all about outright speed.
the community spirit we engender will mean we dont allow people to be left behind.

You should be fine - I was :p

As Bachi says, the spirit is there from the start and "nobody gets left behind" :)

On the motorways it's sensible speed and on the twisties the S is in its element.

You'll have a great time, I'm very jealous :D

Thanks for the support guys. I've just never done something like this before so its more than a bit of an adventure and driving in convoys can at times be less than fun if you need a leak/get left behind/lost etc (I dont have a satnav by the way and am hoping that its not strictly necessary and that the route notes are good).

Also I have a hundred miles to drive in the morning before we get onto the eurostar which is a bit of a pain (but should be OK) as I'm going to stay with my brother overnight in teddington. Another worry I have is that I have let the g/f drive the s' on sunday and she was hopeless. Always in the wrong gear, no feel for what the car is doing, doesnt understand the engine, jerky (previously she was quite smooth in it) and to top it all off - wont follow instruction.

Just majorly excited and a rollercoaster of emotions etc.

So much for "one careful lady driver"!
Never never never ever let a girl(friend) drive your car... :coolgleamA:

Stevie,
i'm driving down from Camden (probably) unless i decide to stay at the premier inn...not decided as yet.

the driving in Convoy thing is a breeze, we will be looking after each other.

also you'll have a walkie talkie and all out phone numbers in case anything goes wrong.
i do recommend getting a sat nav though...if only because you'll have peace of mind and info as to how far/long we have to go.

Hmm. Can you hire satnavs? Or if I buy one are they still dead expensive? I wouldnt know which one to get or how much to pay etc... (I dont particularly want to buy one) which is the reason that I dont have one already.

Harsh
23-06-09, 15:05 PM
we've not managed to get the deal to hire Tom Tom's as yet (Tom Tom is the one we would recommend)

dont get the TOM€ TOM One as it doesn't support .itn files you need a 'One' with european mapping something like a 730

http://www.satnav-discounts.co.uk/tomtom-go/tomtom_go_x30.htm

give me a shout if you do decide to buy one and i'll make sure it's one that will work.

TheStoat

Yeah the sat nav can really help, even if like mine you can't seem to load a route! I found on the last tour that the notes were good but having the ability to just plug in the next waypoint was very comforting. You could relax and enjoy the roads knowing that if you parted company with the pack there was the sat nav to get you back in touch :)

Harsh,

Any more info to keep us going for the last couple of weeks?

Presumably you will be sending out the sat nav files in advance so we can get them loaded?

Cheers

Hi Paul, the Sat-Nav files will be available for download from Thursday and will be in Tom Tom, Navman and Garmin Formats. If you have anything different from those I can cover it, just drop me a PM with the make and model and I'll custom convert a set and email them over. If you get any problems we can't resolve beforehand, we'll have all of the data files, a laptop & cables with us to sort any problems.

Cheers, Brahman. :coolgleamA:

Sounds good. I've got a Garmin Zumo 550 which has an SD card slot and a cable port so I'm guessing compatibility won't be a problem.

Can't wait now. Should be fantastic.
