Well I read it in the papers a few weeks ago , one of those deliberate government leaks , today the chancellor has decreed cars registered before Dec 31 1999 are worth a serious discount if you are buying a new car - £2000 , all very well if its getting some smokey old Cavaliers and Sierras off the road but it will have a blanket effect , all sorts of potential restoration projects will also dissapear forever , I wonder what other effects there could be ? will there be some individuals looking to expoit this system ?, Bangersareus ? What will happen to the scrapyards and will banger racing become the sport of the elite?

I'm not sure we'll lose restoration projects...
classics will be classics.

but i hope to god nobody sees a 1986 nissan micra as a project!

i dont think it's a bad idea but as with most things the UK government does it's badly executed.

I work in a location that's focussed on capitalising on this scheme.. keeping my eyes well and truly peeled for gems.

I'm not saying this is currently a classic or desirable car but this is the kind of result this scheme will have , yes it was a two a penny type of old Ford 80s motor car , but what it will mean is that they will all dissapear , no spares fodder - think a lot of kit cars here - , no chance of going into a garage/lock up until it will become more desirable , just straight to the crusher.

the main concern for me is now if you did want to pick up a cheap run about for not much money the market is going to be reduced somewhat, and many people may now go out to purchase new cars they cant afford to pay for just because they like the idea of 2k off a new car.

hmmm
