View Full Version : My 360 is having a bit of a repaint..........
After 22 months and 19k miles my 360 was looking a little worse for wear.
Couple that with an incident which left the rear wheel arch with a dent, scrape and white paint from an unknown source and i decided she needed a little bit of TLC.
so after a service at Carrs of Exeter (who kindly picked up the car from me and then dropped it off to Alsa Automotive in Wales) Alun set about my car..................
A few before repair.
Damage straightened & panel beaten out.
Light skim of shaping filler & stopper applied & blocked down.
Area masked off, primed & guide coated.

Repairs done on o/s/f wing, leading edge of bonnet (there was a depression adjacent to the badge) n/s door & corrossion cleaned off & treated around side repeater holes.
Front bumper, lamps etc removed.
Repairs masked & primed.

Wow, a "little" paint :D
Looks like this is going to be perfect once finished.
Looks like a proper job & I can't wait to see it in the flesh :)
Tell me about it!...
there's more to come Dan.......
Obviously she needs blocking & machine polishing now (that isn't the final finish on her!)
But (dare I say!!!!) well on course.
I should mention that Al is doing this as a rush job for me because i need it back to go on tour on April 17th and i want it Paintshielded and detailed before i go as well...
I'm really impressed at the speed and quality of his work so far

wash?
wash?
dont worry i certainly wont be doing it!
Just caught a cheeky glimpse of a Daytona in the background, if I'm not mistaken??
Al clearly has (and does) a great job :)
Dan, that is indeed a Daytona, owned by a mate of ours.. good spot!
it's going back to basics and will be ready for a meet at the end of May
Day 6
All blocked down with 800, 1200, 1500 & 2000 grade paper.
Machine polished.
Masking removed & all cleaned off.
not bad for an amateur i'd say ;)

believe it or not, i pick her up the night before the trip.........
Ah, good old "just in time" management :D
I'm eagerly anticipating the return now.....
especially after the latest round of pics Al has just sent me...
still a week to go though :(
anyway onwards with Als comments;
Front bumper blocked down, polished, masked & Satin black painted.
Front end re-fitted.
Radiator intake ducts prepared & painted, ditto bumper intake grilles.
Just the o/s/r corner to re-fit now & final polish.

Got the bill for the work last night and i have to say i really expected the bill to be higher.
Considering i was quoted £1200 by a local garage (not an approved ferrari place, just a place under the arches) just to paint the front bumper.... Al has done about 4 times that amount of work and the price he quoted me for his amazing work made me ask him to go and check again.
so, i can add reasonably priced to talented and communicative.
He doesn't just do supercars and at his prices it's well worth having a chat with him.

So after two days paint correction (with a short break in the middle for the Paintshield to be fitted) I finished the car earlier today ready for Bachi to collect this evening. The majority of the car was fresh paint so nothing too difficult to remove as the paint was still quite soft.
I used Menzerna 3.02 with intensive pads on the rotary for the correction work followed by Menzerna PO85RD with a finishing pad on the random orbital to final polish and then paint cleanse followed by a coat of the £8'000 wax :coolgleamA:

Looks good in the pictures.
Looks filthy in the flesh though - still in France, the car will need a good clean when we get back :D
When i picked her up she looked absolutely brand new.
Al, Dave and Tom did a miraculous job. If you think about the fact that they only had 2 weeks to do it in it makes it even more amazing.
the paintwork Al did was absolutely perfect.
Dave made sure the rest of the car looked as good and
Tom hopefully has made sure it stays that way
So hats off to the guys for making the car look superb.
I'm also really really grateful for the way they pulled out all the stops to make sure i got the car back on time..
fantastic work
Then i got in and drive it....
Nigel's guys at Carrs turned a tired sloppy 360 into a brand new car.
Sadly, with another 2000 miles on it since i picked it up on thursday it no longer looks the way it did (although she still drives beautifully)
in fact it's safe to say it's filthy.
Tom wanted me to report back once the trip was over to let me know how the paintshield held up.
Put it this way, i drove behind all sorts of cars on all sorts of roads, i got stones kicked up at me every single day up some of the mountain passes.
but i cant see any trace of a chip on the treated areas.
I wish i'd done it as soon as i bought the car!
I will get Dave down to give it a good clean soon but not until the 2 weeks are up

Your car looks amazing mate, disturbing when you see it being sanded and primed and looking tried, but then the end result is just amazing :)

Its a really great feeling to know you've improved a car in that way , the difference is in how it still looks good no matter how close you get , a lot of cars that look good at twenty feet majorly dissapoint when you get close up. Great job !

I have had similar experiences with Nigel at Carrs and Al. Great work by both.
Al is in the middle of restoring the body on a Daytona for me right now:

some of those pictures were quite disturbing! However, the final product looks immaculate, a credit to all that did the work.
Very nice.
Thanks for sharing. It really re-enforces the point that looking after toys is very important. I recently had paintwork done on a door & front bumper and it was a well-spent bit of cash.
Looks great. really makes me want a 360 as well.. though i'd personally choose white (cos i'm such a picky bugger!)
I have a great amount of respect for the workmanship of a body painter. It never stops to amaze me how easy they make it seem to produce such a mirror finish.
I tried to respray one of my cars, with all the correct kit, however I did an ok job but it wasnt even close to acceptable. And they turn out perfection like that day in day out, crazy really!
I have a guy who does the odd rust spots on my older cars and the guys works miracles! Though I dont have the advantage of see the process in photos.
Looks very good end product! Dont get too close to trucks on the motor way though...

By Jove ! ....... detective Dan has cracked the case :thumb:
If i'd only thought to click on the website i could have found that myself :(.......... i'm no Sherlock Holmes that's for sure
Now,..... being a bit anal about such things i'm gonna link that across to the Cossie forums and see if it's a known car :) if you're thinking why bother......... well it's because i've nothing better to do ;)
I've already sussed that it's a later small turbo T25 model either a '95 or '96 as it has the later fuel filler behind a flap unlike mine that has a flush cap with an exposed key hole :p

Yup,,,,,,,,, that's me
Nobody knows the car though :o The fact that it's a left hooker obviously means it's probably not local.......

Seems that someone does know the owner of the Cossie after all :) Turns out that he's also the owner of an F355 so that would explain why he had the car restored at AlsaAutomotive :D
Clearly a man of impeccable taste :thumb:

We don't just do Fcars though:thumb:
Have a look at the 'Other stuff' thread I posted in this section or the website;)
The owner of the 'Cos alerted me to the thread yesterday!
It's gonna be a sensational thing when finished - his ATD is awesome.
Cheers all, Al.
