As some of you know, Nancy runs a company called Tiger Two.
The goal of the company is to train individuals, small companies and large corporations how to use Social Media Marketing (SMM) effectively.
The term Social Media encompasses sites such as Facebook, MySpace, LinkedIn, Twitter and Bebo as well as forums, blogs and message boards.
It may not immediately become apparent why these sites and communities would be any use at all to a business. However not only are they useful, they are VITAL to any entity which has a product or service to sell either to business or to the general public.
As an example, if you need to get your specialist car serviced where would you look?
It used to be the local garage or a quick flick through the yellow pages. Now however the first thing you do is google what you're looking for.
The results that come back to you let you know who's in the area. the next step is checking if they are any good.
Thats where SMM comes in.
Being a part of the community of specialist car owners online via Facebook groups, marque specific forums and so on gives you a major head start against the competition.
Giving advice, engaging with people and generally 'having a chat' will keep you in the forefront of those peoples minds.
However there are right and wrong ways to do it. Some serious pitfalls await those that think they can just go online and improve their business by shouting from the rooftops.
Not dealing with problems, or being too overt and pushy can seriously damage your business. In the same way that ignoring it will mean your competitors get the same sort of headstart as the ones that discovered the internet first.
Yes it really is that big a deal.
Social Media Marketing is a skill, learn it and it will bring real benefits. Ignore it and......well the sand does taste nice in that place where you've put your head doesn't it?
