Does anyone know of any particular issues with the flappy boxes?

Unfortunately it's not for me, but my stepfather is seriously considering one.

Any help appreciated.

Cheers,

Dan :)

Dan,

i'm not aware of any specific gearbox ailments for the DB9..
however the quality on them tends to vary with the day of the week.
some are excellent reliable cars but some seem to be 'friday afternoon' cars where you get a host of little niggles.

worth looking at the service bills to see what has been done to it so far.

also boots leak, paintwork can be patchy on some cars as well.

servicing is something to look out for, i'm not sure whether its the 3 or 4 year service which is very expensive indeed.

i sort of like Astons but they leave me a little cold.

it's worth looking at a ferrari 550 or 575 for that money...
at current levels depreciation is less of an issue and there are more independants around to look after it.

Thanks mate - I'll pass the info on.

He's very anal about cars, so would expect him to examine every last receipt and later demand his money back if the washer fluid ran out :D

Not sure about the Ferrari idea - I don't think it's his "thing" if you get me, but I'll mention it to him. Also the age for the money type thing - he's already struggling with looking at 2nd hand stuff instead of spec'ing his own from new.

I'd imagine running costs are higher on the Fezza?? DB9 servicing is every 10k miles, and about £1k a go, so he said.

He went and had a look at this one today. . .

That's awfully pretty.

Perhaps you should ask Riaz (a.k.a. Razbox) for an opinion about the gears - he had an AMV8 and was shopping for a DB9 a while back. But then, I think he's very much a manual man.

Shhh dont tell everyone.
......You said a few months back to make sure it has the FHP. 575s without FHP are pretty cheep now though.

Dont know much about the cars but I do love the DB9's, but why a soft top?? I always find the coupes are smoother and look alot nicer.....Also has he not considered the V8 Vantage? they are stunning cars....everything Aston but condensed

V8 is more focused than he needs - big GT car all the way, he's getting old so the 9 should be easier to get in and out of.

I'm sure he'll try both before making a decision.

Soft top because he's got a Z4 at the moment and has the roof down a lot - I reckon he'd miss that, same with me, I hope I never don't have a soft top in the flock / herd / fleet, I love the roof down stuff.

Plus WHEN (yeah right, more IF) I borrow it, I'd want the roof down too :D

Gearboxes on 9's were always dodgy. Plus servicing costs are very high in comparison to newer Astons. These two points are the main reasons why 9's are so much cheaper 2nd hand than the newer Astons.

Personally, I'd get a DB6 and have a PROPER Aston, with modern enough mechanicals to make running costs affordable.

Sniff... I want my DB6 back, now. Thank you so bloody much for reminding me.

Don't blame me :D
