I thought this might be the first half of the true story about Cary Grant...

A lazy reporter was once writing a story about him and sent a telegram to CG's agent asking the age of the move star. Being a cheapskate he wanted to keep the number of letters to a minimum and so sent 'How old Cary Grant?'

Cary Grant was at his agents' when the telegram arrived. He saw it and sent his own reply. It read:

'Old Cary Grant fine. How you?'
