I'm in two minds as to who the best driver was this year.

obviously Lewis won, but then he had a good (and reliable) car under him.

Massa lost points due to technical issues and yet ferrari won the constructors championship.

huh?

IMO unequivocally yes.............it wouldn't have been this close had it not been for some very strange stewards rulings..

I'm no expert but he seems a very gifted young driver, time and time again whether it be on circuit or on the Top Gear test track, he seems to provide the goods. I am all for him, level headed young star who has seemingly earnt his place. Good luck to him...

I think that Master Hamilton absolutely deserves it. There has been much controversy and some bad team decisions which have unfortunately taken a higher profile on occasions than his absolutely stunning talent, drive and composure.

You have to feel for Massa coming such a close second place but ultimately I think the best man won and what a stunning achievement for someone with considerably less experience in Formula One.

James. :cheers2:

Best driver this year: Alonso

He got more out of an average car than either Hamilton, Massa, or Kimi did out of excellent cars.

i was thinking it was either him or Vettel actually, but i think Alonso gets it because of his greater consistency.

Vettel tended to get lost on occasion but the future is very bright for him.

also spare a thought for David Coulthard....poor chap taken out in his last grand prix :(

What a tough way to go for Coulthard. Thought he handled it like a professional and gentleman though.

Vettel does seem to have a brilliant future. When Kimi finally goes, I would like to see Ferrari sign him.

There's no doubt about it that Hamilton is a very talented driver.

He has however also shown that he is capable of being an absolute cock as well.

He came straight into a top team and showed straight away how talented he is but within a very short time he also showed his immaturity.

I couldn't believe that ITV (the station that kissed his arse at every opportunity) could air his "caught up with the monkeys at the back" comment in that interview with Steve Ryder.

I reckon I wasn't the only one who started to feel that he was better left in the car and letting his ability do the talking.

I feel it would have been better for his development as a "complete package" if Massa had won this year and next year was Lewis' turn.

It obviously didn't happen this way and we'll have to wait and see but there is a fair chance that we have another period ahead of us where we have a multiple champion (well he is going to win more championships, isn't he) who's disliked by a lot of fans and fellow drivers alike.

I'll sit back now and wait for the onslaught .....

Ireland,

at last the voice of reason.

just because he's english doesn't mean he doesn't have character flaws.
However he is young and perhaps the exuberance of youth will pass and he will become more measured.

either that or winning the world title will make him completely unbearable.
i think he is a good driver but still has a lot of growing up to do.

i second (or is it third) the vote for Sebastian Vettel as driver of the year. He took an uncompetitive car to victory and was always there or thereabouts. when the wet weather came he was even more impressive, the sign of a driver with true feel for the car.

if he goes to a big team next year he will win the world championship.

my thoughts are with Coulthard and Massa though.... Massa will come back stronger next year, Coulthard will be an excellent pundit for the BBC

I thought he thoroughly deserved the WDC, the lad clearly has a huge talent.

Though I felt really sorry for Massa and his family, he didn't deserve that title, it would have been a gifted crown.

gifted?

at the end of the day, Massa got 1 point less than Hamilton, therefore he didnt deserve to be WC.

however, he had more pole positions and more race victories,
so if Glock hadn't spooned it at the end, i doubt you could have argued against Massa deserving the title.

Course Hamilton deserved it. Not sure about Massa to be honest. Didn't Irwin get a storming year at Ferrari only to fade out the following year as the no1 driver got off their arse.

McLaren certainly came perilously close to losing it at the last knockings again didn't they ? it was nice to see Hamilton senior acknowledging Massa and family and Massa certainly took it all in good grace didn't he , F1 could learn something from him, certainly the Ferrari boss who reportedly put his foot through the TV he was watching the race on.:biggrinjester:

Overall though , Hamilton certainly deserved it , some stunning drives this year , especially Silverstone.
