View Full Version : Millau bridge and Mont Ventoux
Our first tour of 2009,
Details here.....
http://www.petrolheadnirvana.com/tours/millau_2009.php
Those booking before the end of September will benefit from a 10% discount.
This is simply down to us being able to negotiate better rates with hotels and the eurotunnel if we book more than 6 months ahead which we can in turn pass on to you.
We have to limit the numbers to 15 rooms as the boutique hotels are fairly small, so it's strictly first come , first served.

Guys, there is an oversight on the details. Nowhere on the site does it mention the dates for this trip. Was trying to be all organised and book the time off work early, before they decide to ship me off to timbuktu the same week.

Ooops!
Will get that amended for you as soon as we can - thanks for letting us know!
Meanwhile, the dates for the four-nighter are 17/18/19/20th April, returning on the 21st.
I'm pretty much a yes - if someone going on their own (who doesn't snore much) would share a twin room??
Anyone?
Dan, I'm pretty sure there'll be a few looking to share, so assume that wont be an issue.
Nancy's not coming so i may well be on my own too.
Cool.
I'll book once roomy is confirmed then. . . .

Dates look good, holiday request has gone in at work, 2 potential co-pilots arranged, just need to let them out in the TVR before the mountain roads.(need some more miles first)

Woohoo. :driving:
I have just got off the phone from HQ and am in. I have asked my partner along for the ride and she seems to be bang up for it so happy days. Really looking forward to a long weekend with some great people, great roads and no doubt a glass of wine, or two...
As for a car to bring I am currently out of the market and saving for a purchase late February as a 30th Birthday present to myself. Who knows what it will be, I change my mind pretty much on a daily basis!
Oh my I can't wait.
James.
Jo and I are currently discussing this but potentially we're up for it
Decisions, decisions, which car to take?

Both would be a tad excessive. But it is a tricky decision
i think either of them would be fine on the trip..there's already one Elise coming...
i cant choose between then, but i think i'd err on the side of the lotus on the mountains and the scooby for getting there.....
does that help? :)

No worries about the passport number - we can always get hold of that later. Just good practice to have everything in place as soon as we can. :)

actually Dan, thats a pretty good idea...take both cars, as you say... will certainly save the arguments on who drives! that was a real problem when nancy and i went on tour last year.....

Hi there Dan, well I have really got my heart set on a CSL as these have now come down within my budget. I am however a little concerned about running/maintenance costs as I have been very thorough with my research. It wouldn't be so bad if I saved it for the occasional drive but whilst I will use it solely on the weekends (daily commute to work on the train) I will DRIVE it. With trips like this, Le Mans, a couple of track days a year and planning to go to the ring sometime in 2009 I expect to pay the higher end of the scale for maintenance.
For this reason I am also very seriously considering a Lotus Exige S as they're built for weekends and trackdays, taking them in their stride. They cost peanuts to run/maintain and will out perform the CSL too.
They are currently very similar money so I will hang out and get the best deal I can in February. It's my 30th Birthday so I have vowed to treat myself. :)
I am pretty certain it will be one of the above so let's wait and see...
James.
P.S. Not wanting to hijack the thread, if anyone has experience with either of the cars mentioned and can offer any thoughts or advice please do not hesitate to drop me an email. jabdesigns@mac.com

Personally, with the usage you're looking at I'd go for the Exige S mate. Unless of course you're planning on spawning little people over the next couple of years, in which case I'd go for the CSL!

Guys & girls!
If you still have your forms, pweeease could you return them to us as soon as you can - we need to finalise our bookings with our lovely hoteliers. Don't worry if you've got some details missing - we'll do that for you when you've got them later. Right now, we need a signed form to make sure that you're covered for eventualities.
And if you have any questions, don't worry. Just give us a bell on 0845 838 7363 or email me here (ben@petrolheadnirvana.com).

Bottom of the market 360M F1 or a imported HSV VE Maloo R8 with a pair of turbos added preshipment for good measure?

Yep I think you're right guys and for the record Ben there will not be any sprogs appearing over the next couple of years.
The other side to the argument is that for the extra I would spend on servicing/ running/ maintaining a CSL to the correct standard over the Lotus, I could go to Le Mans, have a trip to the ‘Ring and do a couple of UK track days a year. Hmmm, well worth considering in my book!
As for the new dilemma, I'd go 360 all day long although pass on the F1 gearbox personally but that is of course just down to personal choice...

We are looking forward to our first EU driving holiday, and my first trip to Le France too.

really? how did that happen?
Came across an accident on the way back from Paris, in poor visibility where big fat lorries were trundling past. Poor guy was burried in the central reservation, so I stuck my triangle a a hundred metres or so down the road. It had an honourable death. :)
Nearly - we're waiting for an answer from a couple of people we met at the Ace last night... if it's a yes, that's it!
I take it they haven't confirmed yet?
not yet, but then i havn't chased them either.
why?
are you still thinkiing Jo and Chris might be able to come?
They might.
Not sure when Jo gets her race calendar through, until then they won't know. . . .
Just a thought, are there any possible obsticles for low cars?
I'm not talking 'slammed' but what about train access and ramps?
I can negotiate most speed ramps but the nose is long...
you'll be fine...
we've had all sorts of stuff on the eurotunnel; diablos, my lowered M3, fezza's and the odd S2000 ;)
there's nothing on the route we've sorted that will cause any of us a problem

Really starting to get excited about this guys. :)
With the New Year now in full effect I have decided to implement one of my many resolutions which is to forecast my expenses in advance rather than just take each one as it comes. In doing so I have started with this trip which will be the first of many road-trips planned for the year. I'm making my next car purchase end of Feb/beginning of March so am keen to of course make sure I have allowed enough for the trip on top of the initial outlay for the car...
So a couple of questions for the PN team really. We've all paid a deposit to secure our space so was wondering when the balance is due? Also with the route planned I wondered what the total mileage was so I can guesstimate what to allow for fuel in the new car? I know you'll provide us with all we need to know nearer the time but thought these couple of bits would really help with managing our finances over the next month or two.
Many thanks in advance,
James.

Hey James,
Good catching up with you earlier dewd. As promised, here are the answers to your questions.
This trip will clock up just under 1700 miles on a round trip from London. In the Supe, that would equate to around 340 litres / 5 or 6 tanks of juice. But then, she's very thirsty!
We usually invoice for the balance 8 weeks before departure, which lands on the 20th February for this particular trip - because the hotels require theirs at 6 weeks.
Hey, just a few months away now! :D

Hey there Ben, many thanks for the information, it's really helpful. :)
Just counting the days now...
Still holding off on the car purchase as I think I'll be able to get a better deal next month. I have also decided to reign myself in a little too. I just think with things the way they are I shouldn't stretch myself too much. Was looking at at either an M3 CSL or Exige S but am really liking the idea of an open top for this Summer with a few road trips planned. With the new more sensible budget I am looking to find a really clean E46 M3 Convertible. Always been a huge fan and for what I could pick a nice one up for at the moment I think that's all I'll need. If things are going really well in a year or so then maybe I can look to upgrade then...
Seven weeks from turning 30 and sounding more and more like my Father by the day. :leaving:

Right, preparation under way.
New tyres fitted today, whilst working from home ;) Event mobile have done a great job as always - so easy :)
I'm going to try and get an alignment session with Chris from Centre Gravity as the car hasn't been tweaked for a couple of years so needs it anyway.
MOT also needed, but I get that free from Honda anyway (the test that is, any extra work is obviously chargeable).
Insurance is due next month too.
It could appear that it's getting expensive, but to be fair all of the above are things that I would have been getting done anyway :)
Do we have train times out please?
Was thinking of staying locally if its early AM, as we travel over from Somerset.
Plus I have a bg load of IHG loyalty nights to use up :)
Robin will have those details up early next week :)

Euro Travel Kit? Where's best place to buy other than Halfrauds
Sat Nav files? I am due to replace mine, any recommendations?
Comms? Obviously we all have mobleys, but any two way comms?
(must get my bluetooth and ipod sorted :D )
Oh and to work out how to fiddle with the Xenon Light Euro Mode Shutter - Cut hands here we come
As for car - just had wheels balanced to try and resolve a judder, but to no avail, it seems to get better as car warms up...so getting it booked in for a check over.
Looking forward to it all...
BB,
we're providing the Walkie Talkies so dont worry about that...
with Sat Nav, i'm trying to get a deal sorted with Tom Tom to see if we can get a discount on their units..
if you do get one yourself, then i suggest a Tom Tom with Euro mapping
we do suport the others but i'm also trying to see if we can get TomTom buddy to work effectively...it's not that good at the moment but i believe they are working on it.. (basically it means you can see where everyone else is)
Halfords is the best place to get the simple stuff, in fact i think they do a euro travel kit.
but you may have some of the stuff already so it may be better to buy it piecemeal.

Compulsory are a warning triangle (even a TVR has one so I am not worried) and a First Aid Kit (hm.. get one of those), headlamps must be turned on all day and night (alternatively a loud exhaust will help!) and alcohol limit is 0.5! :leaving:
