Ive got a '72 Beetle, no pictures right now will take some tomorrow.
I learnt to drive in a K reg (EOR 975K) white one.....took front left and rear right wheel arches off one night on a width restriction!!
I have a '73 Triumph Stag in carmine red. Unfortunately it's currently off the road but I hope to get some further work done on it in the near future to get it back running.
I've already had the engine rebuilt and upgraded by Hart Racing Services - lots of Saab Turbo parts for durability (the Saab slant 4 engine is based on the Triumph V8) and the twin Zeniths replaced by a single Holley carb. The exhaust manifold has also been replaced with a tubular setup.
I now need to get the brakes refurbished and probably upgraded, needs new wheel bearings on the rear, plus I'm also looking to have the gearbox and drive shafts upgraded with modified modern items. If anyone knows anything about the last items I would be interested to hear from you. I know Brighton Stag Services once offered such upgrades (I think using BMW gearbox and drive shafts) but I can't find out if they're still about.
send Guy at Tim Walker Restorations an email regarding the parts
if anyone can answer that he can....

as i mentioned elsewhere i'd love a ride in the Stag when its back

Thanks Harsh. I've sourced a supplier for the bits I'm looking for (Monarch) but will need someone to undertake the work, so I'll contact Guy once I'm ready to start (hopefully in a couple of months).
If anyone else is interested (not sure there's any other Stag owners on this forum) Monarch do a complete rear end transplant using BMW 3 series parts, ZF HP22 auto gearbox (to replace the Borg Warner 35 or 65) and numerous other upgrade and performance items for engine, transmission, brakes, etc.
Whilst my Stag won't be standard by the time it's back on the road (I can feel those concours owners sucking through their teeth) I hope it drives for more like a modern car but with the looks of the original.

There's the kind of project I'm yearning for in the future. Funds (and a spare garage) allowing, I'd love to do something similar with a '69 Camaro, TR6, Datsun 240Z or a P1800. Perhaps even a BMW Z8 to make it drive well.
Keep up the good work Mustow - you're clearly as mad as most of us here!

Thanks for the encouragement. The engine also only has one more chance - reconditioned at the time I bought it but due to a sheared jack shaft had to be rebuilt (for free) again after 1,000 miles. Guess what... same issue again after even less miles but this time decided to get it rebuilt properly by Hart Racing Services rather than have a bodge job done again by the original guy.
If it fails again then it will be replaced by a small block Chevy, but that's for another day. :D
Here we go ,Ill try my first picture

All GTs and 1600Es (Savages,Crayfords as well) were treated to this luxury equipment lol , the later ones - series 2 had them moved into the dash as well as a million other differences including different front doors , extra chromework and different equipment options like the exciting Motorola am/lw radio.

I'll also have to check out Mk1s as in my mind GTs and Lotuses had extra dials too (as I'm too old to remember this too)
I bought a NOS Philips am/lw (long wave for The Archers - new pigperson, new romance?) for my last car and a deluxe NOS mono square pod speaker 5w ! but it was too quiet to hear over the sports exhaust

That was my dream car at one time... Well, a 2000E but pretty close...In the early nineties my wife had a 2000E but it was a bit ropey by the time she got it
My mate's dad had it from brand and really kept it well then he got a brand new Capri 2.0S so passed the Cortina on to my mate who used it for everything and put in a glass sunroof and fake wire wheels passing it his wife to use as a family car
That my wife got it and after she had it stolen and recovered (well I went down to collect from where it had been left) it went back to one of my mate's cousin's to be restored - I don't think it ever was restored
but - the brand new Capri 2.0S that replaced it I became the second owner of 25 years later, that left me to be restored but as a daily drive and what a great job Francis and his father-in-law done - I wish I hadn't deleted all the photos of it now or I could show you

S B - Nigel
11-01-09, 23:43 PM
Not from me - the car was VERY well looked after and standard when the dad had it, the son dded the nasty sunroof and silly wheels in the '80s
When I got the Capri 2.0S as the second owner after 25 years it was so original that's why it was sold to be restored rather than getting 5 or 6 times what it could have sold for as parts
Following on from my earlier post, here's my finished car.

Best of British , be sure to give us a report and piccies when you return ?

As discussed, very nice car.
Love the Gulf-liveried 914, and the Guards Red 964 too.

I've got a near mint 1973 Morris Marina 1.3 Deluxe Coupe in Damask Red, currently with 48,000 miles on it which I believe is genuine! I bought my Marina nearly 5 years ago and have resprayed it in the original colour, it was the 1973 finish on it before very badly faded, original spanish rose interior (burgundy) vinyl seats, it's a MK1 so it has the nice dashboard instead of the frankly ugly one that MK2 and later cars got. And don't listen to people like Clarkson, he's talking crap, drives like any other 70's car (and I've driven a few!), and the handling is OK, you can confidently take a moderate bend at 40 MPH and not end up on the wrong side of the road as is reputed! The little A series engine is a little cracker, people with Minis love em' and this ones no different, you can put all the Mini tuning bits on it actually! A british classic that deserves to be looked after and cherished! Also got a 1984 Vauxhall Cavalier MK2 which I'm restoring now and have actually have a thread going elsewhere on the site looking for some advice!
Here's the Marina

Yes it is! I love all things 70's and 80's and I like to try and keep that portion of history alive. There is a group of us up here in Scotland, 40 members strong who all have Marinas and Itals, in fact some have other BL products, including me, well my dad really, he's got a 1983 Metro in similar condition!

seem's almost sacrilage to use it.

An update - as a result of fitting this I have realised there was something very wrong with the ignition on my car , I could feel it wanting to go then something holding it back , I went through all the possibles :- accelerator pump diaphragms , fuel pumps then the distributor points , condensor , plugs , leads... you name it , then as an outside shot changed the distribributor advance mechanism which I thought was fine as I could see it working , wrong ! it was only half working and the difference is like night and day , problem sorted , performance transformed and it's only taken me 20 years to fathom it. I always put it down to worn out carbs , looks like I now have 2 or 3 perfectly servicable ones to sell now.

Bit of an update - since coming back from Silverstone
the engine blew
http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e213/1966Rob/Crossflow%20Capers/2011_0525SilverstoneAllFord0576.jpg
trouble deep inside - rings , pistons etc
http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e213/1966Rob/Crossflow%20Capers/2006_0109CrossflowCapers0014.jpg
http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e213/1966Rob/Crossflow%20Capers/2006_0109CrossflowCapers0016.jpg
so out with the old , in with the spare
http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e213/1966Rob/Crossflow%20Capers/2006_0118Phonecard0030.jpg
and while we're at it , change the gearbox and renew the end rear seal
http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e213/1966Rob/Crossflow%20Capers/2006_0117Phonecard0026.jpg
clutch
http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e213/1966Rob/Crossflow%20Capers/2006_0118Phonecard0026.jpg
oh and also the engine crossmember and steering link/ball joints , had a bit of a struggle getting the tappets to quieten down
http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e213/1966Rob/Crossflow%20Capers/2006_0201HT0007.jpg
but were all done now , it's been a busy 3 weeks with a few wrong turns - camshaft 360 degrees out :blush5:
but the real beauty of oldschool engineering is you can do it all from home and we're all sorted now :thumb:

So, something a little earlier than the 1980's then. 1956 actually, ex race car, and destined to be driven by me on the 2012 Alpine Tour.
This is my 1962 Jaguar MK2 3.8. Im a new member and joined because of Dunsfold, I have never considered myself a petrolhead and dont ask me anything about how it works...my eyes tend to glaze over when mechanics are talking to me about what they have done to my car. However having a couple of car crazy boys has fueled a mid life crisis which had to be resolved by the purchase of the sportiest car I could find that could get all the family in and would be approved by my wife! So I suppose going to classic car shows, attending BTCC races, going to Dunsfold last Saturday, spending Sunday chasing mini coopers through the Surrey Hills , going to Goodwood FOS tomorrow I think at the ripe old age of 50 Ive turned into a petrolhead.
