Well, what can I say.

I had a great day, my tyres are nicely shredded, the bike is covered in bugs and my sliders are nearly worn out.

Cadwell is a very demanding circuit, lots of different corners, fast lefts & rights, slower tighter corners too and then some good combinations especially at Hall Bends. Someone said to me that there is an 80 metre difference between the highest & lowest point on the track!!

The new chicane they've put in to slow people down a bit, works. I really struggled to get that right until later on in the day.

The mountain, well I spent most of the time trying to stop the front wheel coming up (although the BSB guys get completely airborne there!) it is a lot steeper that it looks on the TV.

I have learnt one major thing from the day and that is that I shouldn't be in the novice group anymore!!

I was only overtaken by one other person, my buddy Jim who I had some great battles with.

If you're interested - I've put some pictures up on Facebook - here - http://www.new.facebook.com/album.php?aid=151341&id=594235106

A little teaser. . . .

Got punted off by someone, went off to A&E and then stayed in over night for observations, let out this morning a little stiff & sore but ok.

Have been told it was at a spot where we'd have been doing at least 100mph.....

Haven't seen the bike yet...

Hope you & the other rider are both ok. How bad is the bike?

Coming off a bike is never fun on track or not, especially at that kind of speed.

Adrian Flux do track day insurance now... Not cheap at sixty odd quid each time but if you are really going for it ...
Did anyone catch your spill on film for future bragging? :D

Thanks all.

Picking the bike up later tonight so will see how it is then, have been told that it's just plastics, but I'm not convinced yet. . . . .

The other guy was much worse off than I am, he went to hopsital in a helicopter, haven't heard how he is now though.

Leathers, lid, back protector, boots & gloves have all done their jobs very well. Need to replace the lid & gloves, the leathers would be useable, but I'll probably replace them anyway as they're 7 years old now.

No video that I'm aware of Mark, but some may turn up on youtube or something, I'll be checking.

As I thought, it's not just plastics :(

Both wheels are damaged, various metal brackets broken, rear sub frame, lots of plastics, including the screen, the exhausts (carbon fibre) are broken and the pipes are bent, think the front forks may be bent too.....

That's just from a quick look over, without taking things apart properly.

On the plus side, it started up first time.

Cool that it's running but I imagine the ride would be a bit wobbly :( Will the insurance cover it?

Just seen this update mate...
that sounds pretty bad...

Come off on track days on the bike myself a couple of times it is no fun at all.
I'm glad you're ok chap, as Fiona asked, assume it's covered by Track Day insurance? :fingerscrossed:

Insurance - unfortunately not :(

I guess the only hope I have is that the guy who hit me feels generous, however he's not obliged to pay anything, and I won't be holding my breath.

Slow rebuild from now until the start of my biking season.

Maybe I should set up a "just giving" page, or get a job :D

Oh no! Dan that's terrible news! You just have to keep reminding yourself that at least you walked away from it, even though the bike didn't.

May be worth having a chat with Dreamshack, he does bikes too (as well as, restorations and hot rods and landrovers and tanks and hovercrafts and amphibious vehicles and....well, you get the idea). I know there will be some bits that can only be bought from the manufacturer but he'll be able to sort your twisted metal in no time and has a good fibreglass man on hand so maybe some of your panels can be repaired.

Dan H
20-08-10, 10:45 AM
Thanks Fiona,

However, the panels that are damaged are completely smashed up, with large bits missing :(

Also as the bike is only a year old I'd want to get it back with original panels, screen, etc...

So it'll take a while but it will get sorted.

I'm looking at a few places that may be able to sort the wheels & check the forks are straight, so that should save me over a grand straight away.

I'm also checking out some breakers to see if I can get parts that way.

Fingers crossed it'll be ready for Spain in May next year. . . . .
