View Full Version : Goodwood Breakfast Club run - Sunday March 6th 2011

Harsh
13-02-11, 18:46 PM
The new season has begun!

The first breakfast club of 2011 and the theme is Tax-Free Sunday:

Pre-1973 tax-free classics, plus modern eco-friendly vehicles

We start the new season in the same spirit as we left off with the last one....

Our Goodwood breakfast club runs are always popular and for good reason. A mix of cars, a great drive down to Goodwood and some spectacular machinery at the end of it.

The normal rules apply, it's not a race or time trial just a leisurely drive down to the event in the company of other petrolheads.
So meeting at Guildford Catherdral (GU2 7UP) at 6.45am and leaving at 7-7.15am for a fun twisty route through the countryside.

Who's up for it?

Just had an e-mail from Goodwood about this years Breakfast Clubs and a new feature for this year starting this weekend is Parade laps of the Goodwood Circuit :thumb:

Open to all apparently even if your car isn't part of the weekends particular theme......... you can do 2 laps of the circuit.................. fifteen quid mind you for the laps but at least it's still free to in get and that's about what they charge for breakfast anyway lol so just take sandwhichs instead and you won't be much worse off :boing:

................. but, by 'Parade', i assume they mean slow :read::drive:

Edit: Maybe we can re-define 'parade' and then plead ignorance ;)

How does that work with the ever increasing amount of cars having to park on circuit (almost up to Madgwick on some meets) ? could be interesting.

 could be interesting.

Could be messy :p No idea how they're gonna do it as they usually have display cars on the grid like you say :)

bobsan
03-03-11, 20:53 PM
just leave hundreds of cars parked on the grid with a narrow gap down the middle for everyone to blast through, that would work wouldn't it ?? I really cant see a problem with that idea...........no really I can't.

Parade laps will be slow and steady. Probably behind the tractor that does the laps.

There's enough gap to get that through so I can't see that being a problem.

What will be a problem however is the 100s of people wandering around in their own little bubbles.

Yup... I can see my car developing an unsual problem at the start, I get out have a look at the engine and hey presto it works again... Then obviously I would need to catch up with the pace car/tractor to ensure i am travelling at a sensible speed!

Oh yes, as its tax free sunday and there will be lots of eco cars heading down I will be bringing my car along as well, with the gf still bringing hers (JDee133)... just to balance things out of course!

If you get yourself to the cathedral Phil then there are usually plenty of people with spare seats so I dare say you can blag a lift to Goodwood and back to there. I'm heading down from Guildford but not heading back again for a few days so can't help I'm afraid.

.......... was just looking at the Breakfast Club calendar, i see they've dropped '4 seater fun' and kept 'everything but the car' that didn't seem very popular last year.

Seems my car won't fit the theme until November :o................. 4x4's as they've dropped Souped up Sunday aswell !

I know exactly what you mean :o............ i'm going to be a bit more picky this year as over did it a bit in 2010

No more slogs round the M25 to stand in a car park for a couple of hours in Kent or Virginia Waters or wherever.................... nice to be able to do those things if nothing else is happening but can't justify the distances in the current situation.

Have fun in Asda :p hope they've got some good deals on ;):D

'twas a cracking turn-out.... personal highlights included a Typhon and a Spyker, whilst inside had an Alpine, 2x Miuras, a Zonda, a Carrera GT, and lots more. I really must go there more often - lovely time (even if it was a little cold).

4 seater fun was the best one I went to last year, maybe I'm biased, but ... :(

The parade laps were setting off from next to the go karts and presumably turning in off the track just before the grid at the other end.

Was a good turn out at Guildford (few more than on the list). Some real nice cars there yesterday and a good turn out at goodwood for a chilly morning. There were some very nice cars there and some interesting variations on tax free. If only GT3's were tax free and there was some red 360 thing in the paddock as well, some good blagging on show :D

Good to meet some new people yesterday, good mix of cars on the run down and in the car park. Good to meet you Don and Roger :wavey:

Looks like I wont be getting on the grid this year as my doesn't qualify for any of the themes, oh well. Will have to try and get to more of these than I did last year, good way to spend a Sunday morning.
