Anyone got any preferences on brake upgrades/ pads etc... I think mine are well and truely in need of some care!! thanks DAN yet again :P

However I think pads would be fine as the discs seem adequate at the moment, but thinking if i have to change them i may as well put something decent in...??

If you want to improve the feel and consistency (under hard use) braided hoses are a good idea.

Braided hose's are always a good idea!!! I have found EBC to be very good! They do 3 main ranges, Yellow, Green, Red all are various different setup's!

I have heard good things about mintex pads (I now have a set for the front of the vRS), I have also heard good things about Pagid pads. I have heard some bad things about EBC pads (but never used car ones), personally never had a problem with their bike pads. For your S3 EBC will probably consider the green stuff pads as standard, yellow stuff as an upgrade, red stuff being race pads. They consider the green stuff pads as standard for my octavia vRS.

I accept i may have caused a little wear on a tyre, but no way the brakes.

I didn't even use them, except the handbrake :D

Are you on an S3 forum somewhere?

Not that people here aren't helpful :thumb:, but it can be better to get the feedback from those with the same car.

Hey Sam.

I used to have AP Racing discs and pads in my old Fabia VRS, they were very good, but are a bit pricey, I have also used Brembo in the past, always pretty good. at the moment, my Mk2 GTI Track Car has Mintex discs and pads in it (Okay the calipers are straight of a 3.2 Passat) and has Goodridge braided hoses, and they give a lot of feel with excellent performance (they also lock up well, when cained on the steering pad at Millbrook :thumb:).

Definately worth doing braided hoses, good basic not expensive upgrade.

I haven't used them since my old Manta, but have heard good things about the current performance Mintex range, particularly the 1166. I would check out what people with S3's use as standard upgrades as everyone has favourites.

I currently like the EBC pads and have yellowstuff on the camaro, and redstuff on the VR4. Both work very well and are far better than standard pads. Personally found the Greenstuff not much of an improvement.

Beware though, harder uprated pads will eat the discs alot quicker, and some make alot more brake dust.

More dust, that would be Mintex pads then.

EBC red stuff make huge amounts of dust, so do green, yellow seems the lowest dust and actually quite good performance, I wonder why anybody would bother with green?

I go with ian though on brembo, nice brake systems if a bit pricey, the pads are extremely strongh so when use in multi piston applications can provide much more even brake wear.

Also, do you replace your brake fluid often, if you are braking hard quite a lots (or if dan is doing it for you) you need to at least once a year as boiling the fuild isnt good for it and it incereases its ability to be compressed.

You could always pop over to TTS roadsport, in Kempston just south of Bedford, They have a mind boggling range of brake kits, disks and pads, plus they quote VAT inc. and fitted which is always helpful, and they sell for everything VAG.

DS2500 are great - that's what i'll be using for my next set on the 130. Had them before, capable from cold as well as being able to cut the mustard on the track, not noisy when cold and don't ruin your wheels either.

All you need to do now is convince Mike that his brakes aren't up to the job since the supercharger went on.

Then offer to "store" them for him ;)

Sam, you know my preferred supplier www.autops.co.uk ed@autops.co.uk ... IIRC they will probably recommend Brembo - which is what a friend has on his S3

I have stuck with OEM Discs/Calipers on the R32 - upgraded the fluid to higher spec and been using EBC Red Stuff but may try the newly road legal Yellow Stuff next time.

Mintex Pads were a nightmare, under heavy braking one night there were sparks flying out the wheels and they chewed the discs up fairly quickly

But I like Dans idea :)

maybe I should have entitled this as R8 Brakes fit S3... and see if he caught on ;)

hmmm tempted to try this ferodos as i've heard a lot of good stuff about them, just got to find them for my car!! did have a company in america interested in making brake discs for my car but i can't remember who they are!

I'm sure I could convince mike that the brakes were no good, maybe bung in some aerodynamic nonsense and see what he says :D

He would probably bring performance one's back in his hand luggage :)!

Got my car back on Monday evening after having braided lines fitted to go with the minted 1144 pads and the dot 5.1 fluid, wow what a difference that has made. I think the paint on the bottom of my front bumper may be in danger, can really stand the car on it's nose now.

Yep Ferodo DS2500 or 3000 if you do alot of tracking (race pads), but ideally these need to be in a set of AP Race Calipers (Contact Bob Green Racing for bespoke set for your car).

does anybody know if there are any bolt on replacements for the jag XJS braking system, lots of people do differeent discs and pads but Im thinking of going larger.

AP racing do slightly larger discs for the front but they are still only 4 pot, I was hoping to upgrade to 6 or 8 pot and much larger discs as the tiny 15 inch wheels are now replace with much larger on mine.
The rears cant be change unfortunately because they are inboard, but I think vented rears and ebc yellow pads would be a good upgrade.

I can highly recommend AP RAcing brakes. They are a great kit and the 6 pot ones on my 348 are utterly fantastic. Whilst other cars suffered brake fade, mine kept on going.

Only downside is that that AP Racing are one of the worst Companies I have ever had the misfortune to deal work.

I like AP racing also, good performance and consistency and adds real confidence to driving fast.
Oddly enough my MG came from the factory in vvc sport trim with a full ap racing system, even master cylinder and brake pipes are from them re badged as MG. The standard rover rubbish in comparison is laughable!
