:)

Having been without it now for almost 12 months, and always being modest about it, it feels kind of good to take part in this part of PN and put my own little niche in the forum. Why not eh? It is well known amongst the members and I am here to stay despite only having 2 wheels currently (which I might even post after this in the bike section) ;)

Anyway; bought from new in 2006 a few months after I got married was one of the best moves I have ever made. At the time, it was "the" hatch, rivalled only by the Focus ST and Megane 225. Top Gear, for a change loved it, and being a current Vauxhall owner (Irmsher Corsa - which looked fab but was only a 1.2 ) it was an easy upgrade. It took some planning an commitment, but I can't really fault any part of owning it.

So, an Astra VXR it was, in Arden Blue which was limited to the VXR range, which in itself was new in 2006 and an important step for Vauxhall. Options I HAD to have were 19 inch wheels, Xenons, Keyless/Pushbutton Start amongst other things. In late 2007 it also benefited from a £1800 stainless steel exhaust system, sports cat, iridium plugs, modified air filter and bespoke remap, taking the car on 99 Ron to "just shy" of 300bhp and a genuine 325 ib/ft of torque. (All switchable on a button between an eco map and the full shabang). Did nothing with handling, just wanted power! In hindsight a RARB and suspension may have been wise, but, I enjoyed being on the edge. I think I did ok ;)

In 2009 we had a once in a lifetime oppurtunity with property (to upsize from our 1 bed starter home), which I took, and as such sold the car. But I sold it having had 45k out of it over nearly 3 years and also a whole memory of awesome times, as well as a lot of new friends. I feel that I bought, drove and sold it perfectly. It ticked the box neatly and without fuss or expense.

Some piccies and memories :bowtie:

I remember seeing the blue dizzee car on a couple of runs when I first joined PN. I hope you kept the number plate on retention for your next car!

Indeed. It is currently on my bargain barge, a Mondeo.

I would put it on the bike, but, that is more likely to get nicked, so thought better of it....

I didn't realise you'd got rid of it for the house.

Plans for the next toy??

Unlikely mate, won't be able to afford anything decent until I retire if at all, and even then I have nowhere to keep it.

Think i only ever saw this car one time that i can recall........ and that was at the Ace as i recall when i first started going to the PN night a couple of years ago i think :)

Historically i'm not really a big Vauxhall fan but would have to agree that with this shape the probably hit their Hot Hatch all time high ......... and that's a very fetching colour :D

Looks like you had many good times with her......... hope she went to a good home

Haha, the only time I ever saw it was when Dizeee was out on a run in it, I'd just walked out of the Honda Dealership in Churt (nr Farnham) having been to look at a Jazz (you at the back there, stop laughing! It was a yellow SESport!!) as him and some buddy's came flying past, some major popping and then a nice roarty burble off into the distance!

Just looking at the thread... looked it up for a laugh!

Wow. What fun was had in the Vixer. I seem to have missed the last few comments unil now, don't know why, but thanks anyway!

The car lives on in a Guildford estate. It has black wheels now and the original 56 plate that I bought the car with. I won't lie, it looks chav, and the car (in general) itself now looks a bit, dare I say it, cheap.

Buying it was still the best move I ever made, but I would buy an RS if I was looking today. The Astra had it's day, but that was 2006/2007. I often see a blue one that reminds me of me, or a white Nurburgring edition... Very capable car... would love to thrash one again.

But times have moved on! I get to thrash a 535d every day now! Fun in a different way, but alas, we move on....
