View Full Version : Who Likes Italian?

So long story short I have found one of the best italian joints in this country, seriously seriously good food (the only thing B&J at Lake Como has on this place is the surroundings). So I was thinking sometime at the end of march/early april we should do another south based run using this as the lunch point (parking is ok space wise but not amazing). Its on a fairly nice back road to wherwell/andover and about 15 mins from Winchester (and 5 mins from a nice right hand hairpin) in a little village called Chilbolton. Anyone Game?

Italian or italians? If it has the best italians in the country then I may be interested

Ah, what the hell, I like italian food too and it's much more faithful than the men, gorgeous but the biggest womanisers in Europe!

When were you thinking? Sunday 28th March by any chance? Guess who just sneaked a peek at the PN calander ;)

If there are some italian women there it will make me one incredibly happy man.

As for the 28th maybe then but maybe not, there is a big tunnel run on PH that day and it starts ten mins from me and goes through winch and the surrounding area so would be a shame to miss it! Although a good PN run is more fun!!! My family isnt even in the country that weekend and I will be partying sunday evening so maybe a nice early run would be a good start to a birthday?! The date is flexible to what suits everyone else the most :)!

Hmm, well maybe an early PN run tagging on to the PH run and ending with a party in your parents house while they are away ;)

I don't actually have my roster for that weekend though so I'm planning your birthday without even knowing if I can make it!

and yes, italian women are nice, they tend to be very family orientated while the men, marry them, leave them to look after the babies and then go off and have lots of mistresses on the side! This seems to be perfectly accepted in Italian society (cue lots of PN men moving to Italy). The women then apparently get depressed and eat lots of pasta. Look at italian women, the young ones are beautiful but the older ones are rather bitter, larger ladies who wear a lot of black for some reason. Oh dear, I hope we don't have any Italian members, that didn't come across well when really I love italian culture! It's so demonstrative, like every thing they do is a little melodrama.....I love that!

Ha! The rented flat we use over here is not large enough for a party!!!! But yea in general that sounds like a plan, the PH run is just a tunnel run though so roads are dictated by noise rather than fun roads.

I know the roads between the M40 and the south coast rather well - happy to put a run together (i've done a few dozen over the last 10 years!) but it'd have to be an early start to make the best of it ;)

Please do Pete! I can help with the roads in and around Winchester if you need, also the road to the italian I can help you with. Im always up for an early start, even if it means driving up to London to drive back down to Winchester :)!

Right, here is my little proposed route from the centre of Winch to the Italian and back, the roads are ok, not as nice as last weekend but not boring. There is even a hairpin at one point which I am sure pete will be able to get some lovely sideways motion out of (destination C). As you can see if you zoom into destination B the car park is ok in size but not amazing, however once we have a date and rough time set I am sure I can persuade them to reserve parking spaces for us! I will go on a quick run tonite to check the entrance to the car park to see what sort of angle it is and if its gonna cause any of the lower profile cars any issues.

Boris

Right, run completed, the entrance to the car park is smooth and relativley level, the car park is good for 30 cars and as they open at 12 if we made that the rough eta then parking wouldnt be an issue, having spoken to them they have said that if the eta does need to be later and once we have a more firm grip on numbers they might be able to reserve car parking spaces. Its is quite a popular place so I have made a pencilled in booking for the 28th for a group of 10 upwards. I explained that the date might change as well as the number but as long as I give them fair warning they are ok with that. After lunch it would just be a nice 15 mins drive back into Winchester where people can either hop on the motorway home, stay and have a wonder around winchester (if your a cultural person) or find there own fun way home/convoy it!

As for the route down here I dont know if people want to do a variation of the run from the 'Double Dip' event or whether people want a new route going a different way?!

Here is a quick canabalisation (credit for this goes to robin as it was his original route I ruined) of the Double Dip route but using Winchester as point B, then B-C is Winchester - Food, C-D-E-F Is the route back to winchester via some nicer roads. !

Anton, realistically, when have we ever made an ETA? I know last sunday's run was a bit extreme but even on the Hamble run we were nearly an hour behind schedule. I blame Harsh! ;)

Ha!!!! I Think it acutally was his fault that time wasnt it?! The only trouble is its a popular place and so we will need to book, they are really freindly people so Im sure I can book for between 12 and 12.30 but the earlier we get there the better the parking.

Do we think 10 parking spaces will be enough or should i try and reserve more?

I can't make 28th, will be on Spa 27th and off skiing 28th but if you do it the week before, 20/21 March, that would be awesome, I could show off the new horsepower generator.....M

I will check the diary and see if 21st is possible, the weekend after was a thought but its a Goodwood Breakfast Club Meet in the morning! Although we could Goodwood it for brekky then run from Goodwood to Winch for lunch?!

EDIT: Its only a 30/40 mile drive from Goodwood to Winchester so that could work quite well!!! What sort of time does the Breakfast Club Finish? Also I have just realised the clocks go back an hour on the 28th so if we do choose the 28th we have to bear that in mind!

I believe 21st is a busy day for the PN team Anton. They have a stand at the British Leisure show at windsor Race course. Lambo club are there too. and I think the Millbrook performance driving event is it on the saturday.

I say stick with your plan......we can always do another run the following weekend :thumb: There are loads of good pubs around Goodwood and also the option of lunch in the clubhouse.

Though I may be out as I'm having major car issues at the moment :(
Hope to have the Baja back for brekkie club this sunday but that's not gonna keep up on runs :(

If your out from driving just passenger, trust me you DONT want to miss this food!!

Fiona

The best food I've ever eaten was in the Goodwood clubhouse, just up the road from the circuit. It's not the cheapest (£22.50 for 2 courses or £26.50 for 3) but maybe we should treat ourselves after a breakfast club run one day. It does get very busy though so you have to book and I can only sign 7 people in plus myself, so if we have a big group we need to find someone else who's a GRRC member.....

I'm not working till 5pm on the 28th though so will try and make it but yeah, may have to hitch a lift with someone. I have new dizzy cap, leads etc on order for the Sebring but I have a horrible feeling that this one is not going to be a quick fix, that's just the way things are going at the moment!

Ok due the HUGE amount of other events going on on the 28th March, im changing the date to the 4th April, so basically, Guilford to Goodwood, have a gander round the show till about 11/11:30 then head off to Winchester then down the backroads to this italian place!!!! Sound like a plan?! Any one know a nice route from Goodwood to Winchester?!
