View Full Version : Wilton House Meet - Sat august 14th 2010
Last year this event was truly spectacular, over 100 amazing supercars converged on Lord Pembrokes pad in the Country in aid of the Stars appeal.
we're doing it again this year....a secret morning rendezvous and and afternoon in front of the Public.
only supercars will be allowed on the Morning run but the afternoon is open to the public.
further details to follow as they become available.
I wanna go on the run! :(
Please! Pretty please! I'll film it :D

whats classed as a supercar? 911? its a super car.... but dont know if its classed as a supercar.
likewise with my Sebring. If it's only 100 cars I suspect "Supercar" will mean the more serious exotica...in fact does your 360 even qualify for this Bachi? Maybe they just want Enzo's, Veyrons, 250 GTO's etc ;)

I know some one with a XJ220.... thats gotta qualify doesnt it? Dont know if he would let me borrow it? I suspect not.
If it doesn't then somethings very wrong in the world. Maybe he'll take you (or me ;)) as a passenger.

or both as he has two of them....... they very rarely get taken out.

Oh, that's just wrong! Cars are made to be driven. Yes he should bring both

he has a few rare cars, alsorts i think he still got an Aston martin which was made for Prince Charles but after pressure fron various green groups he didnt take delivery of it so the guy bought it.
but i think he's more of a collecter for sake of collecting than a love of cars.
maybe i can change his mind
I think it's sad when people keep cars as museum pieces, of course they're nice to look at but the real fun is in driving them :D
Ziggy Parker

exactly..... well you never know. maybe i will mention that we are going on a tour and try to get him out in one.
My MX5 is a super awesome car, but probs not classed as a supercar
Intrested, obviously :), dont know if I can make it since it so far in thefuture

Same :)
Unlikely to have a Supercar by then either :(
Perhaps somebody in the know could devise a run down there for the "not quite so super cars" that doesn't clash with/upset the big boys :thumb:

Missed this last year due to reasons i can't recall, but the feedback that i heard was very good :) The RWYB hillclimb stage alone made it look worth a visit :D
From what i remember of the organisation last time the display cars convoy down pretty early to setup then there will be various convoys from all quarters heading down for opening time :)
From the picture threads i saw last year it appeared that the display cars were cordoned off by rope which is a bit of a shame but maybe a necessity..... and anyway, as is usually the case there is probably as much interesting machinery in the car park as anywhere else
A PhN picnic overlooking the hillclimb stage may be the order of the day if allowed :bowtie:

not a question of upsetting anyone, but a convoy of that size visiting four venues had plenty of potential for the mother of all jams
having said that, our illustrious leaders did a faultless job

Why thank you sir! :)
the plan this year is similar, In addition to which i am thinking along the lines of a second convoy leaving an hour after the first one.
the hillclimb may well be something different this year so watch this space!
It was a great day, driving alongside amazing metal and sounds.
It was very well organised
I had hoped to go again this year, however I have booked to be away the middle of August. :banghead: before knowing the date.
I hope everyone has a great time, if last year is anything to go by you will.

Well as has already been said last year was a corker with some rarer cars as well as the usual favourites. I'm in and (if I may be so bold Bachi) can we squeeze another one into the supercars list? The Punto obviously! :D

Time to start thinking about getting organised for this one............ will get my ticket pre-booked this week to save fumbling about for change on arrival.
...... and then we need some ideas for this second Convoy going down, would imagine the display cars will be going off from Hyde Park again maybe but don't know what time ? 2nd convoy 'could' go from the same place an hour later but then being Saturday as time moves on it could be getting pretty busy down there by then maybe............ so could the Ace be a better proposition ? Or anybody else have any other ideas........................... ?

I'd be up for this - second convoy from somewhere in London sounds like a plan to me.

Seems to be a serious lack of interest in any kind of Run or Convoy to the event :o Even the convoy thread on PH is as dead as a DoDo....................it's enough to put me off going :(

Well there seems a big list of Piston Heads cars attending!
There must be some sort of convoys going to Wilton house? There is one being sorted out on the Kent/Essex regional forum ;) OK so far the numbers are not huge but there are cars going :)
I believe though the problem with this event is that many would like to tag along with the Supercars To Wilton House!
Last year the hill climb was a complete surprise to many Supercar owners and was intended to be a private event. I know there are videos of the action after the event, but this was not open to the public. The main event was displaying the cars at Wilton House, the rest of the stuff was for the Supercar owners only.
Jay put a massive amount of work into getting the whole event together, contacting companies such as Prodrive, collecting contact details of car owners over many months/yrs. Last year they had no idea how many cars would attend and also how many of the general public would come along to see the static display. It turned out to be a huge success.
The Piston Head car park alone was fantastic, yet alone the line up of Lambos, Astons, Mclaren F1, etc.
IT REALLY IS WORTH ATTENDING,
And remember, the monies raised are for a children's charity :thumb:
Keep checking the various forums, and get yourselves on a run list, or just PM each other to make up your own run. It will be worth it :)

Not knocking the event Mark................ would not dare with it being a charity event :)
Just debating wether........ without the added value of a decent convoy......... should i go in the 20mpg car or the 40mpg work van :D
Like you say there are plenty attending but am just a bit surprised at the lack of interest from all quarters in livening up the journey........ thought it was going to be a hard choice deciding which group to run with
Not too worried about missing out on the fancy convoy............ have had a little taste of that this year ;) and i'll happily run with anyone anytime :D
See you there :thumb:

The reason they rope them off is because if they dont you will see kids climb all over them (ask Andrew), people scratch them with their zips / jewellery and in general there is a small minority of people that are disrespectful and have their grubby little mits all over the cars.
Personally I know plenty that wouldn't bother going if the cars are not roped off and I dont blame them.
After saying all that it will be a great day (as long as the weather holds out).

Are you meeting at 06:00 / 06:45 / or the lazy but sensible 08:30 ? :D
I was hoping to get up a bit later but seemed to have drawn the short straw and meeting at 06:00. Means a 04:30 alarm call. Fq that :banghead: :sleepy: :sleepy:
Will be driving Owen's 458 up there and Sy is driving mine :D

That's fair enough Adz............ seems reasonable :) I think we must just get spoilt at Goodwood Supercar Sunday where nothing gets roped off........... though that is slightly less of a family day with less kids on the loose :)
May see you there on Saturday, forecast looks ok' ish................... mean't to come over & say hello again on monday but next thing i knew you was leaving early

I think it's suggested that "non super cars" get there between 10:00 and 11:00....... I was aiming for then anyhows.
South Mimms to Wilton is about 2hrs (courtesy of theaa.com) and home to South Mimms is about 1.5hrs for me so I think my "day pass" :sshh: might not extend to setting out that early (home to Wilton is 2hrs as well)..

South Mimms is about an hour in the opposite direction for me - but could be persuaded if they serve decent breakfast? Not been there in ages so I have no idea!
Also, if you're going that way, petrol in the Watford area seems to be quite cheap, about 113.9 for 95 / 118.9 for Super if that is of any use to anyone?

`Sounds a bit uneccessary MaserMartin :o and with Marcellus going another way i think i'm now leaning towards the Clacket Lane Convoy.............. you could possibly pick this up at Fleet services as i think we may be having a stop there :D
As for breakfast i wouldn't expect too much of any Motorway services :(

Hi guys - new here only just found this site.
I am probably heading to Wilton House on Saturday from Milton Keynes, via M1, M25
I was looking to see if the convoy from Hyde Park was happening but it doesn't look like it is.
I was going to ask if any of you guys are going together but perhaps the best bet is to join to other convoy at Fleet Services (or meet some coming from the north of London at Ace Cafe on the way to Fleet Services? South Mimms isn't too far out the way for me )

i will be there now 100% i woder if the field gets slippery lol

Was a good day for sure :) though i do wish i'd left the car at home as it's a right bloody state now after going off road into the PH car park and falling down a rather large hole on the approach road
The convoy from Clackets was a bit lame with not even the organiser showing up  did pick up a few more at Fleet though :)
Did have a bit of weather on the way there but bloody hell............ had a LOT of weather going home  was a bit concerned when got home and heard reports that a 360 Spyder had left the road on the A303 but was relieved to later find out is wasn't anyone we knew :) Commiserations to those involved though............ i did pass the scene but only saw the unmarked BiB that was attending so just assumed it was someone getting their collar felt :(
I would not have wanted to be anyone going home yesterday in a car without a roof............ or a windscreen for that matter.............. not to mention doors even  Must have made for an interesting trip lol.......... hope the drainage holes in the tub were able to cope :o

Great day out, thanks Bachi for getting me in on it late stage. I had a nice run home and a little 'play' with Godzilla's cousin on the way home, another 'chipped' GTR. After leading him on for a few miles overtaking a few cars at a very good pace and then letting him go ahead and sticking to his bumper like he'd never seen an R8 do, he stopped, rolled down the window and queried "that isn't standard is it ?" ha ha. lol.
Here's my video contribution along with the disclaimer that I know most of the other drivers weren't pushing it due to rain and perhaps unfamiliarity with Thruxton (although it was my first time on that track too) so I had a little giggle with editing but I have to say the R8 is a great platform for the wet anyway and it was fun once I had 3-4 laps under my belt. Here's the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GspTMQ6gzvE

Great video :thumb: Have to admit, I was not pushing it too much in the Viper due to the weather (although my passenger was telling me to slow down :D), On one of our first out sighting laps some doughnut in a yellow lambo came flying past Richard and I and ploughed straight through the cones and nearly hit the wall at the end of the back straight missing the chicane
Just glad he and his passenger were ok and hopefully there was no damage to the car.
Looks like you had some fantastic grip on the R8, was the car twitchy at all?

PM on its way to you about a canvas ;)
As to fast production and easy edit, its Mac all the way... Go Apple.
Tell me about it, I can actually hear the cogs whirring in my PC as it struggles to process the HD footage. I used a friends mac to edit my "Bug to Banjul" movie and it just did the job, no fuss, no hassle, no steam pouring out the vents, no crashing every half hour. I'm hankering after a macbook pro but why do they have to be so damn expensive?
My laptop was £200 compared to £1700 for the macbook, okay so I had to spend another £300 on upgrades when I came back from the Viking tour to make it handle HD but that's still a hell of a difference! :(
Nice video, Spykers run the Audi R8 engine, so it just goes to show what a difference a supercharger and a bit of spirited driving can make :D
Mike, given what you've been doing with your R8, you may find this thread of interest:

I believe the visit to Thruxton was in place of the hill climb this year, maybe they will alternate it and go back to Gurston Down next year. Got to have a bit of variety for those taking part I guess, something new and interesting to tempt them into bringing their toys out in the rain.
Anyway, I'm sure jay will be along with a "directors cut" but here's a few highlights from my footage which I didn't edit because I'm too busy editing the Viking tour footage ;)

Well, when you are eventually in a country where you can watch the video, you will spot a shot from above at Thruxton. I was perched on a rather wobbly platform over-hanging the track. Sounds lovely as you pass underneath!
Fiona,
I can actually watch the copy of it on the SpykerOwner website! Great video footage!
