View Full Version : Another fun run?
After the fun and frivolities of the last informal run it would be nice to have another perhaps, I dont know when everyone is busy so we could make it a weekend when most people are free? How about the first weekend in Feb as a ball park date then find one that suites best?! As for route I am open to suggestions, I was thinking maybe meet again for brekkie at the ace then run, stop for lunch at a nice pub/resturant then run a bit further till everyone has to head home?! If there are any events going on around that time that people want to head too we could try and incorporate that too?!
Like your thinking Anton...
we've got something fun coming up in July which should be on here in a week or so
plus a ***** trip and a secret trip too.....
but if there's somewhere you want to go to ....lets make it happen.
i'm game :)
Im game for a ***** trip if you have space?! You know, to represent the lower car spectrum of your customers ;)! Any ideas on route?!
Pete's running something off at the moment but as we're at the Autosports show next that's taken up a lot of our focus.
so if you do have some thoughts then feel free to plan ....
it's always fun to create something and have loads of people turn up and have fun!
First weekend in Feb sounds good, though may have to head to so'ton in the evening.
I hope that secret trip is what I think it is ;)
ok I really really want to go to wales, but i wouldnt want to ruin it with a rushed day trip?! So perhaps a trip down to caterham in surrey, a quick peek round the showroom and then down to Tunbridge Wells?! Never done any of theese roads, anyone who has?

Oh i do like to be beside the seaside :)
I know that sounds crazy at this time of year but there is just something appealing about the coast at this time - all bleak and brooding
There is a certain ambience to a closed down seaside town in the bleak midwinter........ puts me in mind of some of those darker Springsteen songs set on the Boardwalks of the Jersey Shore :D
Though if nobody fancies freezing their plums off (sorry Fiona)whilst scoffing a bag of chips and supping on sugary tea to keep hypothermia at bay :ack2:

There are some amazing roads between here and the south coast - anywhere between the M40 and the English Channel is pretty good, and i've arranged a good few runs on those roads myself.
Wales you say? Funny you should mention that...

Oooo, what about a run to Hamble? It's a sailing village on the south coast where I grew up so I know lots of good pubs where, those who have them, won't have to freeze their plums off. ;)
There's also a very steep hill up from the quay which is a fun blast :D
I know hamble V well, bought our boat from there! Thats a good idea! If you hurry up and arrange a welsh tour I can stop dropping hints ; also shotgun *****!
I went to Hamble school, grew up sailing and canoeing on the Hamble river and Southampton Water, the Solent etc It's official name is "Hamble le-rice" now and my school "Hamble comprehensive" is now "Hamble Sports and Community college", I think they're trying to make it sound a bit more posher!
I'm sure I already put my hand up for a Wales ***** in another thread but just in case nobody noticed.....me, me,me :willy_nilly:
Last nights meet has re-affermed my thoughts we need another good run in Febuary time so im route planning to see what I can come up with then get it vetted by the road guru's here!
Ok here is a quick Idea, Start at the ace, then down then down to Farnborough, down the a31 to a very tight fun 15 min backroad (has too small village sections at 30) into winchester then back on the M3, then M27 then down to lymington for a spot of lunch?! Nice, but you're driving past some of the best roads in the area...
The A31 section is pretty fast but very dull, it's mostly dual carriageway and the odd roundabout.
If you stayed on the M3 to Hook, then took the A339 down to Alton, that's a cracking stretch.
From there it's got to be the A32 down to Meon (NWVT's home territory) and then you can go any way you want. The 32 continues and is great, the 272 is also pretty good fun for a few miles in either direction.
Personally, and with your south coast target destination, i'd continue on the 32 and then cut cross-country to Chandler's Ford and join the M3 there.
Nick, what do you reckon?
What about the B3349 down to Alton, via South Warnborough? I used to live in South Warnborough and that is an good road, (i havent been there in ages though!) Via The B3349 (http://www.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=Ace+Corner,+North+Circular+Road,+London,+NW1 0+7UD,+United+Kingdom+(Ace+Cafe+London)&daddr=B3349+to:A32+to:B2177%2FWinchester+Rd+to:B30 37%2FBishopstoke+Rd+to:Unknown+road+to:50.958859,-1.438866+to:M27+to:A337%2FStanford+Hill&geocode=FedxEgMdeb_7_yG5vTbkXpQHFQ%3BFa8qDQMdsv3w_ w%3BFZ5TCgMdYU7v_w%3BFTauCQMdHg7t_w%3BFda9CQMd_Gjr _w%3BFZjECQMdqAPr_w%3B%3BFaqJCQMdttvp_w%3BFaB0BgMd 7FPo_w&hl=en&mra=dme&mrcr=0&mrsp=6&sz=12&via=1,2,3,4,5,6,7&sll=50.941772,-1.354408&sspn=0.159868,0.445976&ie=UTF8&ll=51.093173,-0.915985&spn=0.318694,0.891953&z=11) or via A339 (http://www.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=Ace+Corner,+North+Circular+Road,+London,+NW1 0+7UD,+United+Kingdom+(Ace+Cafe+London)&daddr=51.275233,-0.9795+to:A339+to:A32+to:B2177%2FWinchester+Rd+to: B3037%2FBishopstoke+Rd+to:Unknown+road+to:M27+to:M 27+to:A337%2FStanford+Hill&geocode=FedxEgMdeb_7_yG5vTbkXpQHFQ%3B%3BFcYLDQMdUv Dv_w%3BFZ5TCgMdYU7v_w%3BFTauCQMdHg7t_w%3BFda9CQMd_ Gjr_w%3BFZjECQMdqAPr_w%3BFZeTCQMd3wrq_w%3BFaqJCQMd ttvp_w%3BFaB0BgMd7FPo_w&hl=en&mra=dme&mrcr=0&mrsp=1&sz=12&via=1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8&sll=51.250742,-0.982933&sspn=0.158804,0.445976&ie=UTF8&ll=51.239566,-1.027222&spn=0.158842,0.445976&z=12)

The 339 and the 3349 are some of my favourite local roads - start at Wellington Country Park (the roundabout we stopped at briefly on New Year's Day), head down the 3349 to Hook and then on to Alton, and back up the 339 to Basingstoke. The turn round and do the same again in reverse.
Car or bike, i know those roads rather well...
ok cool so is everyone happy with one of thoose two routes?!

Sounds fine to me. So where we gonna go? If we head to South Coast then my bro (not the one who was at Goodwood, the more respectable one) will probably meet us somewhere and Lolly (new member) is in Eastleigh so may be able to drag her out in her flash new Mini. :)
I needed to head down that way for family birthdays but I have a couple of days off later in the week now so am flexible....the whole weekend is mine :D
I don't get many weekends off, one in about 5 if I'm lucky so it's quite exciting for me :D
Depends how much of a run people are up for I guess. Local or further afield??
Apparently Beulieu have a new Top Gear cars display if anyone fancies that? Not fussed personally, been there loads of times but if other people fancy it, I'm game.
Or a triangular run...Ace - Hamble(lunch) - Lymington/Beaulieu - and back
or if anyone just fancies a new forest run then I know a good pub in Burley (the witchy place) that has plenty of parking.
any other suggestions?
I live 10 mins from eastleigh so If im making the effort she should ;)! Umm I think the plan was meet at the ace go down to fleet then down one of two backroads down to meon area then back up to the M3 at chandlers ford then from there to lymington (there is a google map link earlier) but I am open to suggestions?! Maybe like fiona suggests hamble first then lymington?
[QUOTE=ACZ;8254] (there is a google map link earlier) QUOTE]
Ah, that's cool, didn't see that. Hamble isn't too far off your route and could head there from Meon then cut through Netley Abbey (past the old abbey), along weston Shore which has some ace chicanes (they're meant to slow traffic down but are great fun to chuck the car through.) over the Itchen Bridge, past the docks and into the forest :) saves doubling back then.
Pub I had in mind is the Jolly Sailor on the Hamble River in Old Bursledon (just outside Hamble) but there's a great hillclimb in Hamble so could do a quick turn round the village too ;)
http://www.beerintheevening.com/pubs/s/48/4867/Jolly_Sailor/Burseldon
Looks all very good to me!
I would come... however you can come find me in the peak district or at the evo triangle :)
woop!
what about a fish & chip place (pun) on the coast ? is there one in "Hamble le-rice" ?
There are definately fish and chip shops in Hamble, and in lymington aswell!!
Yep, either or....I'm just thinking those of us with convertibles might like to get inside and warm up for a bit ;)
so can we expect to see you in car, roof up, heater on, vehicle smelling of vinegar then ??
Depends on the weather.....I'm turning into a bit of a wuss in my old age (and it's my birthday the following week so I will be feeling very old!) :(

How on earth I missed this little thread I dunno..... :blush5: ......Now I have found it though and checked the date, I see it's the weekend ma femme flies out to France to see her bro. Looks I'll be stretching the legs of the Cerb on some very tasty pieces of tarmac between here and some coastal view that weekend from what I've quickly scanned through so far. :D
The 332/272/32 route looks cracking! I know some nice little link-up sections down to the coast around there as well, so between us all it shoud be a riot. I could knock up some kwiki-mart style route notes and some GPS files in the next week or so and email them out to y'all for adding to sat-navs and/or printing the notes.
To firm up the times/locations etc and to prevent, er, any 'issues' on the day, it's probably best to organise the exact details either off-line via email or in an private thread here and leave this thread open for any new interest to register and a copy of the main list? What say you lot?

Don't worry about radios, I've an old tour set of about 25 all with plug in ear/mic headsets that were retired from the tours at the end of last year, so I'll bring them as well. (Also they are all on the same channel so no hasty setting of hardware just before the off :)

Hi guys,
Just back from a few weeks Stateside and I was thinking of sending out a note about doing another one day fun trip when I found this - perfect ! Count me in as its my weekend off from the kids. There are some great roads down that way - who has the route plan?
Mike

Er, yes you do have to wear your pants on the outside of your trousers to be able to see the other thread. We all are and we can see it.... :D
Or you could click here (http://www.petrolheadnirvana.com/torque/forumdisplay.php?f=45)and see what happens... ;)
Would like to join - but I will not know which date until Friday.
Please can I also have access to the route and times - ( I have also tried wearing my pants on the outside with no joy, but did get strange looks! ... I should be used to that by now.):leaving:
I might be tempted on sunday... can someone let me know whats happening and where n times and stuff as I won't get online this weekend :(

Am i allowed some info as i have no idea what why who and when.
Thanks
Chris, no I don't think so unless i'm being blonde...
there's a new hidden section of the forum which Robin is authorising people to view as they express an interest in coming. If he's added you already then you'll be able to see the threads here: http://www.petrolheadnirvana.com/torque/forumdisplay.php?f=45
if not then you need to ask Robin to add you. the idea behind this is to discourage gatecrashers and over-subscribing which was the reason pistonheads had to cancel their run.
has any one got a pax seat for this tommorow :) i fancy hanging out of cars taking pics like i useally do. :)
I do but my car is pretty awkward to take pics out of, mainly because there's not a lot of space to move, especially once you're strapped in the harness. So turning round to take pictures behind is pretty impossible. If the weathers dry I may get the roof off and clamp a video camera to the roll bar :D
If you're coming up to the Ace, I'm sure they'll be plenty of options.

I've got an open seat as on my own if anyone wants to join for pictures, NWVT? Also, Brahman or someone needs to confirm route on special forum and time to start. I'm assuming Ace cafe at 9 am again as per New Year's day.

Look forward to seeing that......... quick work
Not 100% on tonight as had some setbacks today and may not finish work at a sensible time :( will see what happens........ and for some reason i thought it was Ace night next week  is it really the 2nd monday already :o

Is it just hours of me stuck behind you? Oh and the odd citroen saxo?
Is it just hours of me stuck behind you? Oh and the odd citroen saxo?
You'll have to wait and see though fortunately I did manage to catch a few other cars as well.....and the odd cyclist.
The purpose of the experiment was to see how a camera and the mount would stand up to that sort of punishment, hours clamped on the back of the car, high speeds, getting thrown round corners etc. It held up reasonably well, only worked loose once (thats how I achieved the 2 sideways shots) and was in no danger of coming off. I only used a very crap cheap (it was free) camera that I wouldn't cry if it did fly off on a bend. It has no image stabilisation to speak of, my suspension is very unforgiving and the roads are very pot-holed after the crap weather we've been having. I think you'll enjoy it anyway though :)
Next time I'll try the Bullet Cam and see if that's any more stable and then when I'm feeling brave, or have a passenger to keep an eye on it, I'll try it with the decent camera. It hung on well enough on the Top Gear track but then I was checking or moving it to another position after every couple of laps.

You haven't seen me. Roight?
Right, here it is then. I don't have much music on my computer since the old one crashed and I haven't had the patience to re-load all my CD's. Hadn't heard this track for years but it popped up on an i-tunes search while looking for the music for Bachi's spinning video.......can you spot the connection :D

Thanks Fiona, that was very enjoyable to watch. Funny line at the end too.

Nice video! Like the overtake shots :)
that is classic, do like your sense of humour , superb ending. 'excuse me......we may look the part in our toys.......but we're actually lost'
Thanks guys :)
Very nice of the cyclists to give us directions too after we just buzzed them :D
The camera seemed to cope very well with the shakes :)
I rescued that camera from the bin. It was my friends daughters "college" camera, she's a few years older than me which shows the age of the camera. Nobody wanted it anymore so I figured it would be good for trying out stuff like this. It didn't cost me anything, nobody wants it, so nobody's going to cry if it flies off on the motorway. ;)
My suspension is seriously hard so it is rather shakey, the newer cameras have better image stabilisation built in so cope better. Now I know the cameras safe I can try it with the proper gear. Given me a few ideas too. A polarising filter is definitely on the shopping list, so I can see people's faces through the windscreens :D

I am there for a hampshire ring run, anytime :)
if others wanted to meet at the ace would need to be an early start to get down here before all the traffic starts moving on a sunday morning and there are some really nice pubs too :)
Sounds good though I think a run out to Dungeness Nuclear Power Station sometime, for you to take some moody shots in the incredibly weird surroundings there, could also be in order.
