View Full Version : Nirvana on Two wheels
I used to love riding my old CBR's and i still miss the buzz....
so come on, make me jealous...what are you riding and where are your favourite roads/
i might even convince Nancy a bike is in the future................
Come on fella, I've been trying to get you back on a bike for ages!
I'm the very happy owner of a 2004 Yamaha R1, I've had it from new and have only done about 9,000 miles over those 4 years.
I enjoy the odd trackday though, Cadwell Park is next at the end of August. . . .
One of the last track days i did was at Mallory Park....
i remember the off camber left hander down the hill which always scared the crap out of me.
however track days are now in the four wheeled toy....as fast as a bike you know ;)

2000 Kawa ZRX 1100
True, this I know.
But you'll still get stuck in the traffic on the way there :D

My 'Old Man' style XJR1300 is enough for me these days... It's still the best buzz in the world on a road (yes Harsh - that DOES include driving the AA!)
Had my fun this year out of this, but too many things that went wrong in the end...
Next time I buy a bike it will be a Honda V Twin, Firestorm, in Yellow...
Served a purpose... braved winter getting to and from Camden from Surrey with just the bare essentials, never again...

This is what separates the men from the boys on two wheels;

The route has been on my daily route for the past few months, a 1000m vertical climb followed by a 1000m descent.............certainly gets the heart pumping!!
It's very definitely lacking a proper engine :D

I miss my Blackbird (which i sold in April) but not as much as my last 'Blade (which i sold about 6 or 7 years ago!).
I wonder if we could run a PN bike tour. Would anyone be interested in a PN bike tour, and if so where would you want to go?
IOM? Scotland? Spain?

I am not a biker but several occasions this has been raised - and I think you could drum up quite a bit of interest, but I think bike tours may want quite a different approach to the cars.

I reckon you're right - very different - but i'm keen to hear what people want so that we can provide it :-)

My 'Bird was the Fi and put 154.6bhp through the back wheel on Blue Flame twin ovals. Sounded great too :D
Another person today has mentioned bike tours... i think i need to look into this again.
A few friends of mine on 2 wheels have expressed an interest too, particularly in Norway. Trying to get them along to the Ace to talk to you guys about it.

Believe me, this is not the first time (and will not be the last I suspect) over the years that I've been doing this sort of thing that I'll have had this discussion about a mixed car/bike group on tour. I have absolutely no problem with it in principle, however there are a few practical and logistical areas to overcome before I would be comfortable with organising and running it under the PhN flag on a professional basis.
The problems are not sharing road-space either as we're all fairly aware and considerate of our fellow road users, so that is not the issue. Mainly it boils down to 3 basic things. Daily mileage/distances being less on bike tours, accommodation requirements being different and just the sheer practicality of carrying 10 days worth of luggage on a bike whilst negotiating 42 hairpins for breakfast and an Italian coming the other way.
I'm always open to it though and would be interested to sit down again and see if any new ideas on how to solve these issues (easily and practically) are thrown in the ring, but my gut tells me we'd need to run a bike tour first to get the necessary feedback before attempting to put together a combo tour.

I'd quite like to do a bike tour, but i think it would require a small group (not more than 20 bikes) and there would need to be a "luggage van" which goes straight from hotel to hotel. Dunno, but happy to chat about it :)
I would be happy to drive my mum's Diesel Wagon (the size of a van) from hotel to hotel if you need!!
sounds like a plan...
i've still got my Hilux which i can use as well

2 wheels hey.
my current weapons of choice are:
2000 BlackBird, remapped and full Venom race exhaust with twin oval pipes, de-linked brakes with goodridge hoses, and up graded suspension
1999 GSXR 750 Srad for track day fun, main thing I’ve done with this is, upgraded brakes and brake master cylinder, so I’m less likely to warp the discs or boil the fluid whilst on track.
Bike Tour, sounds good, if you need any contacts for the IoM, seen as I run an annual driving/coaching holiday there every year, I am more then happy to share details etc.

Here's a pic of one of my bikes :thumb:

Its a 1977 Triumph T140v (750 5 speed) The one piece Tank and side panel unit is a copy from a Triumph Hurricane designed by Craig Vetter. The bike has won a few trophies at shows but as usual with triumphs you always end up taking things apart and rebuilding them again! Trouble is now not having enough time to build the triumph again while playing with the other toys :D
I can't find any pics of my Fatboy at the moment, but one or two of you have seen me on it at the ACE :)

My garage is now less 3 Vespa's which my brother and myself had imported fron Vietnam. 150cc 's 2 1962's and a 1967 Sprint. Immaculate condition and loved riding them...
But also I have my matt black stealth missile. a full power ZZR1100 old school . With some Suzuki ZXR front brake calipers now replacing the useless pieces of sponge kawasaki originally put on. Love that bike...real easy to ride and still blows most of the new bikes away. (with the right rider of course)...just getting it ready for this year. Should be on the road sometime later this month. New rubber and MOT required.
Dont know if I would wnt to go on a tour though! Rideouts on Sundays down to the coast normally end up very scary... so riding in Europe on some twisty roads with 20 other bikers???
Ohh last year as I was Driving the Stelvio we witnessed a bike come round a hairpin and his back end slid out and the wheel hit a concrete kerb which happy to say stopped the bike going over the edge.....................but it didnt stop his wife who was riding pillion somersauting over it. He then crashed and snapped his leg.......... the wife thankfully was about 20 feet down lieing on her back trying to hold on to tufts of grass to stop herself falling an awful long way!
Scared my missus ...but not enough to stop her taking some pics...lol
